SimBloSys was concieved in 2002 by two UK college students, and has developed over the years into a small group of keen thinkers and developers, with connections and skills across a wide plateau of industries.

The Reality of our work

If the sections below on our programming skills and hosting plans don't seem interesting to you, this section is for you. Though the best way to get an idea of our work is on the portfolio page, we'll break down the process a little better for you here.

When starting a web project, the most important thing for us is to get a feel of what you want from a website, this sort of exchange can be done in friendly face to face meetings, or over distance by e-mail. If you don't know what it is you want a website to look like/do, we can help with this, by providing examples or suggestions, and you can best explain what you are trying to convey through examples and ideas. When we're working on a website, we keep a "design" version on our server, which we can direct you to at key points of the process, to get your feedback on the development. It's important we don't spend hours working in the wrong direction only to find out when it's too late!

Basic information sites, such as this one, with good communication, can be knocked up in a little under 2 weeks, even faster if things like colour schemes/graphics are already prepared. Sites which want more active functionality can take longer, with the most drawn out processes (such as users being able to register or shop on a site) taking anything into months to develop.

You'll want to read our terms and conditions to get an idea of how paying for services/hosting works, though note, this is more relevant to work setting up straight websites, if you are involved as an idea provider for an innovative web service, we will probably discuss the intricacies of the finances on a case-by-case basis..!!

Hosting

We rent and manage a Virtual Private Server from VPS Land. This Linux server runs RedHat 3, and has a plethora of web services available to it, including PHP, MySQL and Perl. It's huge capacity and bandwidth availablility make it the ideal solution for hosting the work of SimBloSys, and with it's ability to seperate out domains and users into finite, structured accounts, every client/site can be catered for individually, making sure no resource is wasted.

Developer Skills

The core developers at SimBloSys have roughly a decade of commercial experience between them, and much more experience developing with systems they now work on. From an actual commercial perspective, our core skills are:

We have set up and managed several commercial Linux servers, and have a comprehensive understanding of network and web security issues, as well as working to W3C/WAI/WCAG standards. Our creative stylings are self developed, with underlying support from Computer Science Degrees.
